Photography Adjacent Podcast

A photography podcast about much more than photography. Every week, we speak to artists, writers, thinkers, activists, experts and, of course, the occasional photographer to delve more into their world and discover what makes them tick. We explore the creative journeys of interesting people and try to pose challenging and compelling questions to understand how we can become better photographers and better people through photography.

Ep 10. Life in Frames (feat. Kezi Husseyin)

In the latest episode of our podcast, we spoke with Kezi Husseyin, a gifted family and wedding photographer who's work weaves intimate narratives with the minutiae of her subjects' lives.

Kezi's work is often untraditional, capturing moments others would otherwise overlook. Whether it's a simple family breakfast or things on the floor, there are stories behind these moments.

During our conversation, Kezi shared insights into her creative process, highlighting her penchant for capturing the mess of everyday life. This approach isn't about creating picture-perfect scenes but focuses on authenticity and the beauty of imperfection.

Ep 8. Art Death Life (feat. Jonny Edward)

This week on Photography Adjacent, I was lucky enough to chat to Jonny Edward, known online as Jonny Creative, an incredible portrait photographer.

Our conversation was wide ranging and engaging from the outset. Jonny shared some dark experiences that made him the person and photographer that made him who is today. Jonny's story isn't a series of career pivots, it includes confronting some of life's sternest tests, including a terrifying episode that nearly ended his life. "I remember being in the back of this ambulance, thinking about my past... And now, after a day of creating art for the community, I'm suddenly facing violence," Jonny shared with me. This brush with mortality underscored life's fragility and fueled his commitment to creative pursuits.

This week on Photography Adjacent, I sat down for a chat with Neal Haddaway, a man who wears many hats, including environmentalist, international developer, activist, and photojournalist.

From his sunny spot in Bangor, North Wales—yes, it's hard to believe—we discussed his journey, deeply entwined with the environment. Neal is on a mission to reveal our planet's fragility and inspire us to introspectively and actively seek a different path for our future.

He earnestly believes in the responsibility of holding a camera, especially for photojournalists. "It's not just about capturing an image," Neal shared. "It's about understanding the ripple effect that image might create. My years at the intersection of science and policy taught me that change is often more intricate than we anticipate."
